thoughts. whispers. hollers: single women.

Inspiring blog by my equally phenomenal sister GAZE! I am so proud of you dear sister I am so blessed to have you. You're a GIFT!

"I LOVE MY JOB!"

Can you honestly say that?
So my reflection goes...

Have you come across this email? It’s entitled
“How to Look Busy When You Really Are Not.”
(an article from, Kerygma Magazine, May 2010, by Bo Sanchez)

1. Always walk with a few documents and folders
in your hands. People with nothing in their
hands look like they’re going to eat in the
canteen. People with newspapers in their hands
look like they’re going to the toilet. People with
a few folders in their hands look like they’re
hardworking employees going to an important
meeting.

2. Use computers to look busy. Anytime you use
a computer, it looks like work, even if you’re
surfing, emailing or playing games.

3. Have a messy desk. Build huge files of
documents around the table, even if it’s one
year old. Pile them high and wide. If you know
someone is coming to your desk, bury the
document you need halfway down the existing
stock and then search for it when he arrives.

4. When the boss is working late, leave the office
late as well. You could read magazines, do
crossword puzzle, or play solitaire. Just make
sure when the boss leaves, you leave with him
as well.

5. Creatively sigh for effect. Sigh as loud as
possible when there are many people around,
giving the impression that you are under
extreme pressure.

6. Build vocabulary. Read up on computer
magazines and pick out all their jargon or
simply invent words you don’t understand.
Use the phrases freely in conversation with
your bosses. Remember they don’t have to
understand what you say but you will sound
impressive.

7. Have two jackets. If you work in a big open
office, always leave a spare jacket draped over
the back of your seat. This gives the impression
that you are still somewhere in the office. The
second jacket should be worn while you are
malling somewhere.
8. Most important, don’t forward this email to
your boss by mistake.
I was laughing when I read the email, but sad, too,
because I know this is the picture of many people —
people who don’t enjoy their jobs.
When I ask people, “Do you enjoy your work?” the
most common answers I get are “Yes!” and “Well, work
is work. It puts food on the table.”
There are many wonderful ways of putting food on
the table, why pick something that you don’t enjoy?

St. Josemaria Escriva, founder
of Opus Dei, says, “Your work must
become a personal prayer.” It is a path
to holiness and is open to everybody,
whatever work they may have.
Even noted English essayist and
critic, John Ruskin, has this to say about
work: “The highest reward for a man’s
toil is not what he gets for it, but what
he becomes by it.”
Who are you becoming in your
work or business? Do you want to
succeed in your work so that you can
serve the world and serve God?
Here are six ways:

1. Be totally dependable.
All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to
poverty.
— Proverbs 14:23
Lazy hands make a man
poor, but diligent hands bring
wealth.
— Prov — Proverbs 10:4

If you want to be blessed in your
work, be totally dependable. If you’re
running a business, your customers
need to know that they can depend on
you. If you’re working for a boss, the
boss needs to know that he can depend
on you.

2. Serve your leader.
“And whoever shall compel you to go a mile, go two miles.”
— Matthew 5:41
Here are a few tips on how to serve your leader:
· Be consistent — hear it, do it, report it.
· Be your leader’s no. 1 problem-solver.
· Ask your leader’s advice for your improvement.
· Don’t complain; offer solutions.
Here’s an exercise. Imagine the face of your boss. Now transpose the face of
Jesus onto the face of your boss. How do you feel? Nauseous? It doesn’t fit? If you
want to be blessed in your work, in your career, in your profession, you have to
do the impossible and see Jesus in your boss. You have to serve your boss as you
would serve Jesus.
Even if your boss doesn’t deserve to be served, as long as you’re part of the
company, serve him as you’d serve Jesus. If you really, really don’t like him because
he’s a nasty guy, get out! But while you’re there, serve him.
To be a leader, you have to be a follower first. Before you can lead, you have
to know how to follow.

3. Think like an entrepreneur.

These are some of the winning ways of an entrepreneur:
· Define your end results.
· Define the high impact activities that produce these end results.
· Find ways to increase profit.
· Find ways to decrease cost.
You have to be an entrepreneur within your company. Don’t just understand
what you’re supposed to do. Understand why you do what you do.
Here’s a funny story.
A man was walking in a park, taking pictures as he went along. He saw two
men in workmen’s overalls. One of them had a shovel, digging a hole in the
park. Then another guy comes along and covers the hole. After that, they move
to another spot and the first guy digs another hole which the second guy covers
again.
The man thought, “My gosh, what are these two guys doing? Dig a hole,
cover it. Dig a hole, cover it.”
When he could not contain it anymore, he went to the two guys and said,
“Excuse me, what are you doing?”
The first guy said, “Well, you see, we’re supposed to be three guys here. The
government pays me to dig a hole. The government pays this other guy to cover
the hole. The guy who’s supposed to be between us is sick. He’s absent but we
have to work. The guy in the middle is supposed to plant a tree, but he’s not
here.”

Some employees know what to do, but they don’t know why they do what they do. An
entrepreneur must know the bottomline of the business and how he can increase the profit
for this company even if he is just an employee.
Think like a business owner when you’re an employee and you will succeed and be
blessed.

4. Build relationships.

You have to build relationships with your bosses, with your team, with your suppliers,
with your customers.
There are two ways of succeeding in business. The first is to be ruthless. Step on other
people’s toes. Steal. Deceive. Lie. Cheat. And you’ll probably earn a lot of money. But you’ll
be very lonely at the top.
The second way is to build relationships — to care for your customers, your bosses,
your customers, your team. When you are a caring person, you’ll also be blessed. And you
will also earn a lot of money but it will not be lonely at the top. Whoever says that it’s lonely
at the top doesn’t practice real leadership. Leadership is bringing people along with you to
the top.
Five hundred chief executive officers were interviewed in a survey and were asked,
“What’s the no. 1 thing that you look for when you hire people?” The top answer is, “We’re
looking for people who are able to work well with others.”
Amazing? That’s what we need — to be able to build relationships as we do our work.

5. Always innovate.

A wise man will hear; and will increase learning. — Proverbs 1:5
In a career, you either go forward or backward; you don’t stand still. Every manager
must continually improve his or her skills in a lifetime self-improvement program.
— Mary Kay Ash
Are you moving forward or backward in your career? Are you reading? Are you attending
courses? Are you learning? Are you expanding or developing yourself as a person? If you have
technical skills right now, in four years they’ll be obsolete unless you keep on growing.
I’ve been preaching for 30 years and I should stop innovating, right? No! A couple of
years ago, I attended a seminar on mind mapping. It’s basically a seminar on how to think
and use your mind powerfully. For nearly 30 years, I prepared my talks in a linear way (A, B,
C, 1, 2, 3). Now, because of the seminar, I prepare my talks with a mind map — with arrows
and illustrations and drawings and color. I have to innovate. I have to keep on doing better
in everything that I do so I can bless more people.

6. Be a person of integrity.

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches…
Integrity is the one thing that will make you fall asleep each night with peace.
— Proverbs 22:1
You show that you are a letter from Christ… — 2 Corinthians 3:3
In your job, people need to see you as an epistle for Jesus — that you are a person of
integrity, you do not cheat, you say no to temptation.
In your job, you can get tempted. And there are different temptations for different
jobs.
I have my own temptations. One of them, believe it or not, would be women. Why? It’s
not because I’m good-looking. (Ahem!) But if you’re always on stage, some women can get
attracted to that. One time, I was walking in a mall and there was a woman who approached
me. She wore a plunging neckline. Oh yes, I looked at it — one second, two seconds,
three seconds, four, five, and then I remembered I was Bo Sanchez. I’m a preacher. I’m a

Christian. I’m a child of God.
I don’t always win against
temptation but on this occasion, I won
and I was proud of myself. I did not
keep on looking. I said I would not
entertain the impure thought, even if it
entertains me. But she approached me
and she said, “Are you Bro. Bo? I read
Didache. I’m a big fan.”
I said, ”Are you sure?”
She wanted to hug me and pull
me aside, but I said, “No, I’m going
somewhere.”
Believe me it was difficult. I had to
look at her face — neck up. But I was
able to say no and I walked away.
Imagine if I failed. Imagine if I gave
in. Imagine if I said, “You remind me
of God’s creation. You’re so beautiful.”
Imagine…
Would I be successful in what I’m
doing now?
No, I need to be a person of
integrity.
Friends, we spend almost 60
percent of your waking hours working.
At the very least, our work should be
something we enjoy. Better yet, find
a job where our passion and potential
lie — and then we will truly succeed
and bless the world, not just put food
on the table!

FINALLY!

Yes!, finally! I have a blog that people can read on and hopefully learn from. I was content with writing notes on FB... but I wanted to reach and touch the lives of a great number of people through the power of words. I love to read... write and speak.. Now, I am learning the beauty of active listening. I am learning a great deal when I listen and not interrupt people with my own stories or a phrase like "I know that!"

My dear clients and phenomenal customers, loving family and wonderful friends and simple strangers... (eves dropping... sorry) when I commute...Thank you for letting me experience the wonder of plainly LISTENING! I am loving it and learning a lot!

MWAH!
